Firefighting @ EL
Answer the call to serve with our rigorous firefighting program. Train alongside professionals to gain the skills and experience needed to become a hero in your community.

The Fire Science Program is a rigorous, hands-on, two-year training experience
designed for students who are ready to lead, serve, and protect. Grounded in NFPA
1001 National Standards for Firefighter Qualifications, our curriculum combines
classroom instruction, scenario-based training, and live-skills practice that mirrors the
expectations of today’s fire service.
To meet program expectations, students must be able to participate in all physical
components of training and must be medically cleared to wear a respirator. During
the program, students will:
Set up and climb ladders over 30 feet
Conduct simulated roof ventilation, including chopping and cutting
Drag, deploy, and operate fire hose lines
Perform search-and-rescue and survival techniques
Complete skills while fully outfitted in structural firefighting PPE and SCBA
Throughout the program, students may earn multiple industry-recognized certifications,
including:
ProBoard Firefighter I & II
Basic Firefighter (MFSI)
HazMat Awareness & HazMat Operations
CPR / AED / First Aid
CERT: Community Emergency Response Team
Wildland Firefighter Training
Graduates may earn up to 6 college credits at Southern Maine Community College
(SMCC), helping them accelerate toward a Fire Science degree or related public safety
pathways.
